The Rum Quarter by The Rumah at Perfect Serve Bar Show Amsterdam
The Rumah took over the terrace at Perfect Serve Bar Show Amsterdam, running a pop-up for the duration of the show. The Rum Quarter was their programme for it: a full day of rum masterclasses, guest shifts from some of the best bars in the Netherlands, and the kind of atmosphere that only happens when an industry crowd is left to its own devices on a terrace with good rum.
The Masterclasses
Andrew Nicholls, the person behind William George Rum, led one of the sessions. His approach to rum is grounded and direct, and the format kept the room focused: each masterclass was delivered through headphones, with attendees tasting as they listened. Takamaka Rum from Seychelles was also on the programme, walking through a range that reads differently once someone with deep knowledge of the distillery explains what is actually in the bottle.
The headphone format gave the sessions a focus you rarely get at a bar show. Nobody was half in a side conversation. People were listening, tasting, asking questions.
The Guest Shifts
Bar Break from Rotterdam came in and ran a tight shift. The three of them behind the bar under the Rum Is Dope neon looked like they had been working there for years.
Feijoa Amsterdam brought their whole energy with them. Known as one of Amsterdam's best industry and party bars, they showed up exactly as advertised. Shirts off, serious cocktails, bubbles everywhere.
Alibi Rum closed out the guest shifts. The bottle design earns a second look, and the serve they put together earned a second round.
Eddie and The Rumah
Eddie, the owner of The Rumah, set the tone for the whole day. The speaker going up above the crowd on the terrace is the kind of thing that either works or it does not. It worked.
The Terrace
Running a pop-up terrace at a bar show is its own logistical challenge. The Rumah made it look easy. The back bar was worth the trip on its own, the terrace had room to move, and by late afternoon the whole thing had the feel of a venue that had been there for years rather than hours.
