Family Photoshoot in Haarlem
Haarlem is one of those Dutch cities that looks like it was designed to be photographed — the canals, the historic buildings, the particular quality of light that bounces off the water. It’s also a city where families live real, full, everyday lives, and that combination makes it an excellent place for a family photoshoot that’s both visually beautiful and genuinely human.
Family sessions work best when you stop trying to make them look like family sessions. The formal poses on command, the everyone-look-at-the-camera moments — they rarely produce the images that families actually love. What works is moving through a location together, letting the kids lead occasionally, letting moments develop rather than forcing them, and staying alert to the in-between moments that are usually the best ones.
Haarlem gives you options: the Grote Markt, the canalsides, the smaller streets that feel authentically Dutch without being tourist-heavy. The city holds up as a location in any season and at any time of day, though late afternoon light in spring and early summer is hard to beat.
I’m a Rotterdam-based family and lifestyle photographer and I travel regularly for sessions across the Netherlands — Haarlem, Amsterdam, Den Haag, and beyond. If you’re looking for family photography that feels natural and produces images you’ll actually want on your walls, get in touch.
