Rotterdam Engagement Session C & M

Rotterdam is a city that rewards the people who actually look at it. Most people pass through on the way to Amsterdam or Den Haag and miss the fact that they just walked through one of the most visually interesting cities in Europe. C and M live here, love it here, and chose to do their engagement session here — which meant I got to spend an afternoon showing off a city I think about this way too.

An engagement session does two things. First, it gives you beautiful images from a time worth documenting — the anticipation, the in-between, the fact that you said yes and now you're planning an entire life together. Second, it lets you spend time with your photographer before the wedding, so that by the time the big day arrives, you're comfortable in front of the lens. C and M came into the session a little nervous and left it laughing. By the end, I barely had to say anything — they were just being themselves, and I was pointing a camera at it.

For C and M we worked through a mix of urban and waterside — the architecture of the city as a backdrop, and the quiet along the Maas as a counterpoint. The light in June in Rotterdam hits differently: long evenings, soft gold, the kind of light that makes everything look slightly better than it is. Rotterdam has no shortage of incredible locations, from Kop van Zuid and the Erasmusbrug to the quieter canal streets of Delfshaven.

I'm Rachel Ross, a Rotterdam-based lifestyle and wedding photographer. Documentary-style, warm, and genuinely good at making people forget they're being photographed. If you're planning a wedding or engagement session in Rotterdam or anywhere in the Netherlands, let's talk.
