Calaboose + Michter's

Calaboose is one of Rotterdam's serious cocktail bars β€” a venue with genuine craft credentials, a strong point of view, and the kind of regulars who know what they're talking about. Michter's is an American whiskey brand with a genuine story: one of the oldest distilling traditions in the US, a range that includes bourbon, rye, and American whiskey, and a philosophy of making spirits worth taking seriously. When these two got together, the result was a collaboration event worth documenting.

Spirits brand collaborations with Rotterdam bars work when the pairing feels genuinely earned. The best versions of these events aren't just product demonstrations β€” they're conversations between a bar and a brand, with the bartenders bringing their own perspective to the spirit and creating something new with it. That's what happened at Calaboose. The Michter's range provided the material; the Calaboose team provided the context and the craft.

I photographed the event with an eye for the drinks themselves β€” the colours and construction and the particular way Calaboose serves things β€” and for the people, the atmosphere, and the specific energy of a bar night built around something worth drinking slowly. These events have a particular texture: knowledgeable crowd, bartenders in their element, product that rewards attention.
